Last prayer by milosr Last prayer by milosr
White man came, across the sea, he brought us pain, and misery, he killed our tribes, he killed our creed, he took our game for his own need. We fought him hard, we fought him well, out on the plains we gave him hell.

god, couldn't you hear our prayers?

Beautiful coloring and use of composition. The focus is more on the plain than on the native american, which is a nice way to keep the focus on the philosophy and contemplation of the piece. The colors are full of life, which emphasizes their belief in the great spirit flowing through all things. To me it conveys that there is still a sence of hope in the pleas of the man.

Being half Native American myself, I can really relate to this. *Most* Native Americans don't pray to God or gods... unless you're like me and actually have a secular religion (Methodism for me). However, sterotypical as he may be, it's to the point, and with the added text, it just slams home. The colors are amazing, and the simplicity of the work makes it all the more fun to look at.

Great piece. :+fav:

While the Native American depicted is somewhat stereotypical and not likely to be appreciated by real living Native Americans, the intent is appreciated. Very strong line work and use of color again, although I think perhaps a wider, more landscape view might have better served the earth theme.

The use of colour on this one is really impressive. The sketchy and therefore light" feel of the picture leaves more space for the message behind the image - which comes across quite well.

I have to say that ~leliathomas hit the nail on the head, there. Except I slightly disagree with her on one bit - I read the figure as Indian the moment I saw the thumbnail.

The reason why is not so much the character composition, but the theme of the piece. This picture conveys a very strong "Indian" theme with the heavy emphasis on landscape and color. I really like how you created the grass. I love the very simple style of it. It isn't so much realistic as it is gestural, so it gets the point across and doesn't take a lot of weight to portray it.

Marvelous execution here. I'm very impressed.

This is such impressive work! I love your unique style! If you don't already, I suggest you look into presenting some of your work on a professional level if this is how your pieces usually come out. It's less the theme and everything else as it is the style. It really is yours alone, and I like that.

Obviously, you have a more sketch-like style than one for realism, so I'm not going to focus on the clouds, too much, but I will say they look a lot more skety-er, lol, than the rest of the image.

My major suggestion is on the Native American. When I first saw this, I was thoroughly confused, even though I liked the picture, because I first thought it was a black man! :XD: I think he needs some lighter tones, more reddish brown, instead of black brown.

I'm not sure I like the green trees (?) in the background, at the edge of the clouds. It's kind of annoying to my eyes, but not so much that it takes away from the piece.

My favorite part, though, is the plains! They're just so beautifully created! This really is some awesome work, and with a little work, you could do a lot with this.
